Inventory ABC Analysis — Tips & Tricks
What this screen is for. Ranks all active inventory items by dollar movement into A/B/C classes so you know what to count and watch most.
What you do here
- Open the Inventory ABC Analysis tile on the Logistics Main Menu.
- Set ABC thresholds (A / B %), default 80/15/5, keeping A and B above zero and under 100 combined.
- Choose whether to Include on-hand qty in the ABC basis, and stick with that choice month to month.
- Pick the Movement window: 90, 180 (default) or 365 days.
- Leave Update the ABC code on IM2 items? set to No for a report-only run first.
- Click Run report and leave the page open until it finishes, about three minutes.
- Click Download the spreadsheet once the summary line appears.
- Unhide the hidden middle columns in Excel on the Item Detail tab if you need them.
- Re-run with Update IM2 set to Yes only after reviewing the report-only file.
Watch out
- Do not close the tab during the run, or the run is lost and you must start over.
- Do not change the movement window and basis together, then compare to last month's file; change one thing at a time.
- Turning on Update IM2 actually writes the A/B/C code to items and logs it, it is not a preview.
- Check unit of measure on bulk and wire SKUs, since per-spool billing vs per-foot stock can inflate cost.
